J HANNA WRITER/DIRECTOR
I Was a Teenage Super Hero Sidekick Interview Questions:

What is your favorite super hero and why?
I’ve always been a big Batman fan. A rich guy who takes on the responsibility of the darkness, protecting the city, while throwing up the facade of playboy… was always a great concept for me. Also, he recruited young boys to be superheros. I wanted to be a superhero!

If you were given super powers would you ever give them up to live a life of normalcy?
It depends what you consider normal. In the movie, normal for Larry (ex-superhero Kid Dynamic) is very different from Tony’s (current Frog King) idea of normal. Everyone has to do what’s right for them. That’s the only way it can work out for you as an individual. That being said, I would totally throw on some tights and fight super-villians for a living.

Do you have any favorite comic book writers?
I was a young child in the 90s heavily influenced by writer/artist Jim Lee’s run on X-men and then the creation of WildC.A.T.s. The big muscles, the bright colors, the skewed lines between right and wrong. That was a lot of fun for an imaginative growing mind. My GOAL in superhero film making, would be to direct a WildC.A.T.s movie. Someone tell Jim so we can get started!

You use yoga as a ‘super-healing’ power in the film. Do you personally find yoga to be an almost super natural work-out that transcends an other gym routine?
I personally get very frustrated with yoga, like our character Larry does….initially. Yoga forces you to slow down, move with purpose, think before you act. Which is very healing when you combine that with a personal introspective. I’m more of a Frog King workout kind of guy. Weights, machines, power.

The film looks like it was a ton of fun to shoot. What was your favorite moment on set?
The film was tons of fun to shoot. We had a lot of incredible people come together to make the movie. Favorite moment on set? Hmm, okay. We were filming the Superheroes Anonymous scene and we just had a great group of guys who bonded quick and naturally came up with some funny stuff. From man/bro butt slap to over enthusiastic superhero The Angry Beaver, it was just a good time.

KATHY McCURDY PRODUCER
I Was a Teenage Super Hero Sidekick Interview Questions:

What is your favorite super hero and why?

The Stone.  Because she’s powerful, just, kind, wise AND pretty.  I like Wonder Woman for the same reason so they are tied for first place.  Also cool is Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man because he’s brilliant and funny.

If you were given super powers would you ever give them up to live a life of normalcy?

Depends on the superpower but sure, normalcy is great.  And ‘power’ can be overrated.

Do you have any favorite comic book writers?

J Hanna.  Well, he hasn’t written a book yet so Bill Watterson because Calvin and Hobbes literally made me LOL.  There are loads of cool female comic writers but I mostly read non-fiction so I never had a chance to delve deeply into their work.

You use yoga as a ‘super-healing’ power in the film. Do you personally find yoga to be an almost super natural work-out that transcends an other gym routine?

Yes. Yoga, pilates, and the Alexander Technique are all awesome.  Yoga has a whole spiritual side that is important (AT does too but they don’t talk about it in such terms).

The film looks like it was a ton of fun to shoot. What was your favorite moment on set?

A quiet moment (literally, sound was rolling close by;) in the green room with Samantha (Costume Designer) while she was resting.  She was pregnant with her first child, Saoirse; and we were just whispering, talking about the baby, the costumes, the movie and it struck me how amazing everything is – all happening at once and just flowing and all being together.  We gave Saoirse an assistant credit for being good to her Mom so she could do the movie!  The other one that ties for first place was hearing Kelly’s score for the first time.  I literally cried. It was completely perfect and fantastic and was going to be in our movie.  I couldn’t believe it.   Kelly is the most incredible talent. We are so grateful to her and Samantha for joining this movie.
