TEE’D OFF

CHRIS FEDERICO

Q: This starts out like a golf movie, but it’s obviously about an actor who’s just had enough. Is this, um, based on real life?

A: I don’t think it’s so much about an actor whose had enough; It’s meant to be more along the lines of an actor coming to terms what the realties of auditioning are.

Sadly yes this is based on real life. But it’s acting (well it’s auditioning) if it was easy it wouldn’t be worth doing

Q: What’s your current handicap? (Besides casting agencies…)

A: When my strokes reach a certain number I just stop keeping track.
If I can complete a course and I don’t have to let 4 groups play through I call that a good day. 3 groups playing through is still a good day.

Q: What are some of the ways you’ve heard of that actors cope with the acting life?

A: When it comes to coping with the rejection theres a bunch and everybody is different a few examples are , Yoga, drinking, running, writing a letter you’ll never send ,drinking, Golf or the driving range (of course), batting cages, Actor support groups (yes actor support groups)

Q: What about golf makes it a retreat from the rigors of acting?

A: Take a big stick and hit a tiny ball as hard as you can. It’s pretty basic

Q: What was your worst casting office experience?

A: Not to dwell on the negative but there is one incident that stands out.

I was doing one of those take your headshot and resume and hand deliver them to see if you can get into meet the casting director. So after not being able to get in at a couple offices.

I finally get in at one. In what I thought was a high rise of’ice building but it ended up being this casting directors apt/ office. I get to the apt I meet the casting director who is lying on her couch eating macaroni salad out of tupperware and she explains that she’ll give me the “break downs” and I go through the actors in her files and when I find one that ‘its the “break down” I throw it into the packet and I’m more than welcome to throw my own headshot in the packet as well if I ‘it the break down. There where like 3 other actors in the file room plugging away throwing their headshots in every packet whether they fit it or not . I thought the entire thing was ridiculous so just walked out and made a note to never submit to that casting director.
